As Japanese design Noriaki Endo begins the unenviable task of closing his influential Devilock brand. “Tributes” are coming in as gestures of thanks, including Shinsuke Takizawa of NEIGHBORHOOD who added a special edition selvedge denim to Devilock’s final collection. Though it came as a surprise to many, it was quite an understandable decision for those who knew Noriaki Endo when he announced last week the closing of Devilock, the Japanese apparel label he established 14 years ago. Coming off from another major recessions, one of many it went though the last 2 decades, Japan’s economy never really made a full recovery. However, the closure of Devilock has less to do with the economy but more with its original principle where the label has flexibility in its creative process. When market forces started to dictate how Devilock should create its collection, Endo knew it was time to cease operation. So in an open letter to Devilock’s supporters, Endo stated operation will be ongoing till the official date of closing, set on November 11 th, 2011 or a year from now. In the meantime, the label will continue to churn out some of its last collection, including the Fall/Winter portfolio for 2010, available now on EPROZE of online shopping network ZOZOTOWN.

Our favorite hero of the people is back this summer! Devilock is a Japanese brand with a rock influence yet one of their stand out mascot is the Palm Boy character that has been interpreted into numerous products over the years. Made with soft rubber that protects the iPhone, it is available in three primary colors of red, blue and yellow printed with the cheeky Palm Boy smile. Scheduled to be released at the end of April, online store Eproze is currently taking pre orders of the case until Friday, March 23rd.

Cycling inspired apparel and accessories are still going strong and the short brim caps have gained popularity for those who don’t like traditional cycling caps. Devilock have launched their version of the Cycling Mesh Cap in three colorways, black, red or navy. The front panel and top brim is made with a bandanna style fabric stitched with Devilock embroidery. Under the brim is a rubber print graphic in a monotone logo with “Possessed” written underneath. At the back is a white mesh and snap back adjuster strap making a clean side and rear view. Currently these are available at Eproze online store.

Devilock will keep celebrating their 13th anniversary with the release of a special collaboration item with another stand out Japanese brand, A Bathing Ape on their classic Skullsta sneaker model.
The Palmboy Skullsta is a limited edition only for online store Eproze and will be produced to pre orders only with the release planned for sometime in June. Palmboy is the character that has garnered many followers with its charming design and colorful nature. This character is printed all over the sneaker in multi colors filling up the whole upper and contrasted by crisp white midsole, toe box, tongue and laces. The pre order will stop on January 18th 2010 so fans should get online before then.

Once again they have collaborated with Garni who have been supportive of each other since the beginning. The base of this Devilock Skull Ring is the popular Garni skull ring which have been modified with a fringe like addition on top of the ring. Made with an acrylic material in red, black or white colors that is accented with Devilock and Garni logo on a silver plate on each side of the ring.

Japanese apparel brand Devilock is celebrating its 13th year anniversary this year and this is their latest item to commemorate the occasion. They have teamed up with jewellery brand Garni, who have been good friends since the beginning, to produce a silver necklace. The Palmboy is an iconic character designed by Devilock and it is the focus of this necklace piece. Atop the Palmboy is the iconic skull piece from Garni, making the connection of both brands visible. On the back of the Palmboy, no detail is sparred with his hands crossed in a charming way. This is a unisex piece that is roughly 3cm tall including both the skull piece and Palmboy.
