PUMA by Hussein Chalayan Urban Mobility Collection Fall/Winter 2011

PUMA creative director has debuted looks from his Fall/Winter 2011 Urban Mobility collection. Chalayan’s primary inspiration is motion — it’s the driving principle that ensures each of his pieces is informed by both fashion and performance, something that’s clearly evident in the new assortment. The theme for fall 2011 is movement captured by cameras, resulting in garments with linear angles and geometric overlays. The idea is perhaps best captured by the Urban Swift, a shoe based on the iconic Clyde but refashioned with injected molded TPU treatments on the quarter and side panel to create the appearance of speed and movement. Check out more looks from the range following the jump.

PUMA Alexander McQueen & Hussein Chalayan Fall 2011 Collection | Preview

As the publishing date of the late David Foster Wallace’s last book draws near, we are reminded the creative brilliance of talented individuals, who often and tragically ended their lives too early, like that of designer Alexander McQueen. Similar to Wallace’s publisher, Little Brown & Co., PUMA picked up its collaboration with McQueen where the designer left off after his 2010 suicide. The challenges were 2-fold, how do you finish incomplete design without damaging the ethos of McQueen? The same can be say about Hussein Chalayan‘s collaboration as well. Fortunately for all parties involved, was able to perform a delicate dance where both appeal to the masses and the desirability to select few resonant in both collaboration collections. Scheduled to launch early this Fall as part of ’s Fall 2011 Collection.

Hussein Chalayan for Puma Urban Motus | Winter 2010 Release
It’s probably too early to say that for Winter 2010 is a signature look, but based on the Turkish-born designer’s interpretations of the Urban Motus, combined with his work on the Puma Urban Glide, it’s clear that the Puma – as done by Chalayan – definitely has a common thread. Just like the Glide, the Urban Motus gets downplayed and updated; still Puma, but with a distinctly new look. The Motus silhouette is a riff on of the ever popular sneaker/desert boot hybrid – which is quite workable – and Chalayan’s version of the hybrid comes in three colorways, variations on the theme of subtlety, in brown, black, or navy tonal color schemes. They feature a premium suede upper with waxed laces. All of Chalayan’s designs are a pretty major departure for Puma, whose “design” sneakers have tended to channel athletic looks, rather than minimalism. It’s a good bet that these are going to be just the thing for some Puma fans, and be an item for people who want to name drop “Hussein Chalayan” every time they get asked about their shoes. Check out images of all three versions after the jump. via: TGWO.

Hussein Chalayan for PUMA Urban Glide | Winter 2010 Release
Here’s an addition to the high-top fashion sneaker with a celebrity designer category. For Winter 2010, PUMA retained the services of Turkish-born Hussein Chalayan to interpret the company’s Urban Glide high top. Chalayan created two colorways of the already sleek and modern sneaker, black/black or anthracite gray/black/white. Chalayan keeps things svelte, and his shoe is simplicity and understatement personified. Logos are tonal, and the only extraneous feature is a small heel tab, just enough to keep things athletic. The black/black version is tuxedo-ready, but both versions could be the foundation of a well turned out outfit. Both versions are crafted from premium Nubuck, with a leather lining, and a glossy midsole. Interesting aside: got lots of fashion industry press when Top Shop announced it’s Kate Moss collection. Chalayan went on record criticizing the idea that celebrities can sell fashion based on their name recognition. If you agree with him, please just enjoy these Urban Glides simply as a sophisticated pair of Pumas, regardless of the big-name designer. Check out both versions after the jump. via: TGWO

PUMA Urban Mobility by Hussein Chalayan Motus Sneaker

Urbanites today may not have to trek miles on end just to get from one place to another, but it doesn’t mean they travel and roam the concrete jungle with any less baggage. To facilitate mobility and ease of commuting through the city, Puma’s Urban Mobility collection aims to fuse technology, function and fashion into one single collection that will serve urban wanderers well. Since is no stranger to high-fashion collaborations (having worked with and Sergio Rossi), the Urban Mobility collection is directed by none other than Puma’s very own Creative Director, Hussein Chalayan who has been at the helm since 2008.

Chalayan is one of those designer with a fearless, experimental vision and does not compromise on luxurious sophistication. The St. Martin’s College of Art and Design graduate pushes fashion boundaries with innovative cuts and materials (his breakout show was a graduate collection consisting of decomposed silk dresses he buried and later exhumed for the show).

For his Urban Mobility Spring/Summer Collection, one of the fresh sneaker models that had been garnering a lot of attention is Chalayan’s re-imagined chukkah-inspired Motus sneaker. The Motus sneaker is crafted from intriguing inverted leather upper and extremely unadorned, championing a minimal, deconstructed look reminiscent of Scandinavian and Japanese design. Unlike other Puma sneaker one might be used to, the iconic racing stripe along the side is printed on as opposed to sewn on, giving the shoes a sleeker, flat, 2D look. Sitting atop white rubber soles, these vaporous grey sneakers look almost surgically clean and debunk the preconceptions of chukka being outdoorsy and rugged.

The Motus sneakers are now available for purchase via Revolve Clothing, so check them out if you are thinking of coping a pair of desert boot sneaker or chukka sneaker this season.

Hussein Chalayan X PUMA Spring/Summer 2010 Collection | Preview

Fearlessly experimental yet utterly sophisticated, Hussein Chalayan is one of the few designers who are constantly challenging concepts of fashion by pushing the envelope and design boundaries with innovative cuts and use of material. The St. Martin’s College of Art and Design graduate and Member of The Order to The British Empire came into the cut throat fashion scene in 1993 with a stunning graduate collection consisting of decomposed silk dresses which he buried and later exhumed for show.

With a penchant and experience for collaborating with high fashion designers such as Sergio Rossi and , PUMA sought out to create sneakers for Spring/Summer 2010. Using a mix of materials and meticulous patterning that are iconic of Chalayan’s eponymous apparel collection, the sneakers retains simplicity in a monochromatic shades of grey while developing complexity in form. So far, the preview shows a Chukkah inspired sneaker and another more futuristic hi-top adorned with overlapping straps and panels. Other than sneakers, a printed tee featuring futuristic cosmic prints that are reminiscent of the designer’s Spring/Summer 2009 and Fall/Winter 2009 collections is also previewed along with the collection. Stay tuned for more information to come from the highly promising collaboration. Via:: HS
