Mazda MX 5 GT Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship

The car which ushered a new roadster craze 2 decades ago just underwent some “liposuction surgery”. Designed for this year’s Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship, the Mazda MX-5 GT isn’t just a “rice racer” version of its street legal cousin. Tuned to unleash 275 horsepower, the lime-green pocket rocket is able to do 0-60 mph in just 3 seconds. In order to achieve such speed, members of the Jota Sport found few interesting solutions to shave off the car’s weight to a mere 1,874 pounds. In addition to removing all the original interiors and replacing them with parts made from carbon fiber and polycarbonate. Mechanics also rinsed the car shell in acid to cut a few pounds more without degrading the car’s structural integrity. Will these drastic measures help? You can see the result this Saturday, March 26th, as the car makes its debut at Silverstone GP in England. via: Autoblog
