Union x Visvim Trunk Show | Event Recap

In happier times… Visvim and designer Hiroki Nakamura played host last week to the label’s seasonal trunk show. With a good dose of conviction from Union Los Angeles, the location was changed from the usual fare of Tokyo to the Greater Los Angeles area, where the scope of ’s popularity finally became clear. Among the friends and families, long time fans such as Mr. Bentley and Mos Def swung by for a few purchases. But the true highpoint of the moment was when Eric Clapton walked in and had an engrossing conversation with Nakamura about what else but the different elk species. Make us wonder whether Nakamura customized a few special pair just for the rock & roll legend.

Mos Def – The Tournament

tracks keep coming out long after the release of The Ecstatic. We’ve given our readers a taste of tracks like “24 Hour Karate School” and, more recently, “White Drapes.” This track, called “The Tournament” features the Mighty Mos on a track that was left off of his latest album, which is nominated for a Grammy Award. In this track, Mos raps over a sparse drum break that also uses a sample from “Theme from the Godfather” by the Professionals that recently got chopped up by the RZA on “Black Mozart” off of ’s latest album.

Mos Def White Drapes | Video

is riding high right now, even without a new album to plug. With a recent star-studded show with Jay Electronica, and a Grammy nomination, Mos is staying in the game as strong as ever. This video is for a track off of Michael Sterling Eaton’s album called Mictape Vol. 1 that also features The Cool Kids, Stally, Curren$y, and more. In the moody-toned video, Mos spits out a fresh verse over a subdued, dreary synth. Keep your eyes open during the Grammy Awards ceremony to see if Brooklyn’s own, Mos Def, can take home the trophy for best hip-hop album for The Ecstatic.

Mos Def Collection by Dustin Canalin for UNDRCRWN

Mos Def (whose real name is Dante Terrell Smith) is definitely a driving force in the entertainment industry. From record deals to television appearances, a talent that does it all.  Now, he’s taking his first steps into the fashion industry.  Long known for his love of urban style, recently partnered with UNDRCRWN of Philadelphia for a new collection by the label’s creative director,  Dustin Canalin.  The aim behind the new project is to create a line with solid designs.  Furthermore, it can operate independently from Mos Def’s celebrity, establishing a name for itself as a stand-alone label.  While maybe not as prolific as ’s own Pastelle, this new project from and Mos Def has already garnered much attention within the street wear/urban lifestyle industry.  Expect this collection to become one of the most coveted this year when it drops on August 26th at the Palms Hotel & Casino, in Las Vegas.  To learn more, read men’s fashion trade paper, DNR‘s report on it.
