Stussy x Parra   Capsule Collection

Stussy has a long history of partnering with artists and illustrators. The latest such collaboration finds Stussy Japan teaming up with Dutch artist Parra on a capsule collection made up four graphic T-shirts: “Building Blocks,” “S.O.S.,” “Big Ballers” and “Worldwide.” The distinctive artwork, reminiscent of oversized comic panels, covers the front of each tee and is representative of ’s signature style, featuring bright colors, hand drawn lettering and bold, curving lines. Parra x Casio G Shock x BEAMS T   Capsule Collection

Renowned Dutch illustrator and graphic designer Parra flew into Tokyo again recently for the opening of his pop-up store at BEAMS T Harajuku. The event is hosted by Casio G-Shock and its official name goes something like this: G-Shock presents “It’s Time To Party” a by Pop Up Mini Store. Inside, fans can expect to see numerous unique illustrations on the walls, and there are limited edition t-shirts, mug cups and posters on sale, as well as the multi-colored Casio G-Shock DW-5600 watch. SFMOMA Presents: Parra

Once overlooked and dismissed, cadre of new contemporary artists, many of them influenced by street art and graffiti, are now recognized by some of the world’s leading cultural institutions. In 2010, it was KAWS and Adlrich Contemporary Art Museum in Connecticut. This year was the effort by gallerist Jeffrey Deitch and his coup de grace, Art in the Streets, at Los Angeles’ MOCA. Come next year, illustrator will be joining the same procession as San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) presents the artist’s first museum commission in the U.S. Almost completely self taught, the Amsterdam-base artist often presents works with fluidity like that of graffiti and a witty theme to match as well. The Parra exhibition will start on March 31st till July 29th, 2012.

Stussy x Parra x KICKS/HI   10th Anniversary Collection

KICKS/HI is celebrating its 10th anniversary in grand style, with a capsule collection courtesy of Stussy and Dutch artist Parra. The celebratory pack includes a denim snapback cap and a graphic tee in either black or white, the assortment infused with a Hawaiian vibe, with the cap emblazoned with “ALOHA!” and the tee adorned with a can of pineapple slices, continuing ’s fruit-centric theme and bearing his signature curvilinear forms and hand-drawn letters. Its been a long, brutal winter this year, and yes, we are all waiting for the sun to shine again. Serendipitously, this Parisian label read our minds. Going by the name Waiting For The Sun, the relatively new label have a penchant for sustainable materials and simple construction. In this most recent eyewear, LA Une, done with help from artist Parra, the uncomplicated design of bamboo is donned up with mutli-color schemes. Rockwell   Amsterdam Show by Parra T Shirts

Rockwell founder and designer Parra held an exhibition in Tokyo titled Amsterdam Show by and to commemorate the exhibition, are releasing two distinct designs that reflect the identity of as an artist. One t-shirt is a typography only design that simply read “The Amsterdam Show by Tokyo” in white screen print over blue body. The other t-shirt design features the famous bird like creature wrestling, which coincidentally was inspired by ’s friend who lifted up his girlfriend in a bar. Defrag   Parra Interview | Video

Japanese online media magazine Defrag has gotten a hold of Parra, an artist/illustrator from Amsterdam, while he was in Tokyo for the opening of his solo exhibition, The Amsterdam Show. The newly opened Common art space in Harajuku is a compact gallery that looks like a back country chalet, constructed with plenty of wood. In this short interview, describes his introduction into the art from his parents to the inspiration and meanings behind his bird like characters. We thought Dutch artist Parra is the only one holding up his red paintbrush and painting the town red with Converse, but it turns out, for Converse’ Fall/Winter 2010 (Paint The Town)RED collaborative collection, the label has partnered up with a few artists, Giovanni Estevez, Aaron Martin, Cody Hudson, and of course, . Each artist has been invited to put his unique spin on a pair of sneakers, and a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the (Paint The Town) RED collection will go towards The Global Fund to help fight AIDS and HIV.
