Tokyo based select store atmos has partnered with Penfield for an exclusive jacket from their archives. This lightweight outerwear is based on the Gibson Jacket and it uses a 65/35 Hudson Wax cloth, which is water resistant and windproof. Instead of opting for a colorful tone, the team chose the most basic color as these jackets are not usually offered in black. Leather zipper pulls and bronze details suggest vintage aesthetic, while the piping on the inside of the jacket is made from tricolor check material. Delivery is scheduled for early February and atmos is taking pre-order on their online store right now.

Its no longer a struggle to stay cozy this winter, that is if you have the newest winter collection from Stussy’s and Penfield. With just a slight update, Stussy created the urban equivalents of Penfield’s popular Lantis Down Jacket and Outback Vest. Just the reverse of last year brightly colored collaborations, this season’s line is decidedly mellow, in black, grey, and navy. But they are still outdoor workhorses, with a polyester, rayon, and spandex shell for durability and a 80% down/20% feather fill for warmth. For the folks at retailer Reed Space, their long held fascination with speed and the open road materialized into this year’s collaboration with Penfield, the Stapleton Motorcycle Jacket. Appeared some days ago within the pages of STPL Fall 2011 Collection Lookbook, the Reed Space x Penfield Stapleton Motorcycle Jacket harks back to the golden days of cafe racers and Porsche 356 Roadster. In Penfield’s trademarked water resistant nylon with leather racing stripes and appliques, nickle silver zipper and snap buttons complete the unique design. Inspired by the trusted Craftsman Toolbox, a red interior lined the jacket’s interior along with Staple Design‘s motto, “A Positive Social Contagion.” Finally, a Reed Space “School Chair” logo replaced the familiar Penfield’s Bear icon on jacket’s sleeve. Limited to Reed Space only, the Reed Space x Penfield Stapleton Motorcycle Jacket will be available starting tomorrow, November 22nd, for $285 US.

The Black Bear collection from Penfield is a premiere apparel line that focuses on traditional designs while investing in innovative fabrics. This Gillman Vest is a classic silhouette by Penfield and it combines high quality, 100% Shetland wool from Jamieson’s in Scotland. Multi-colored woven wool panels decorate the exterior on the shoulder yoke and pockets, contrasting the water resistant, navy outer shell. A compilation of still photos and digital images, with a similar juxtaposition of style from Stussy, UNDFTD, Penfield, Fred Perry, Pointer Footwear and more… The Moscow-base retailer KIXBOX attempted on its Fall/Winter 2011 Collection Lookbook recently. The result is something quite similar to portraits by Terry Richardson, both impromptu and candid. For some, life is a voyage filled with winding trails. For a few though, it is a blur of opportunities, a race to the top. In catering to the demands of these go-getters, outerwear label Penfield will be organizing a one-of-a-kind scavenger hunt, all done through the vast jungle of the Internet. Titled “Race for the Summit,” the project highlights the ever-functional aspect of the New England classic’s influence in the fashion realm, and a celebration of the label’s original – the Penfield Summit Down Insulated Jacket.

The first clue will begin to circulate through Penfield’s own website this Thursday, November 17th, followed by a second one on Penfield’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Then, the clues will lead participants thorough a virtual journey of related pursuits and interests, from outdoor lifestyle, cutting edge musical acts, Americana staples, to contemporary fashion. Along the way, participants will get the opportunity to submit their answers on penfieldusa.com. The correct ones will unveil a new set of clues.

Of course, there are more than bragging rights at stake. Runner-ups will get the chance to win one of 20 Penfield Sanford Beanies, 5 Penfield Outback Down Vests, or 3 Penfield Summit Down Parkas. And the winner will get a custom-made “Race to the Summit” premium down parka. The contest is to start this Thursday, November 17th, and will run until Monday, December, 19th. There seems to be no end to the collaborative projects coming from Stussy this season, and the latest partnership is made in conjunction with Penfield. The capsule collection is built upon the Penfield Black Bear line, putting emphasis back into contemporary design and the use of premium fabrics. Both the Landis Jacket and Outback Vest follow traditional silhouettes, with  the addition of a zipped cuff pocket on the Landis Jacket and a zipped chest pocket on the Outback Vest. The classic appearance is achieved by the use of wool fabrics on the exterior, while Oxford fabrics line the interior. Each piece of outerwear comes in grey, black or navy colorways and will be available starting Saturday, November 12th at Stussy Japan Chapters and online stores.

Before Gore-Tex and Teflon, there was the traditional waxed cloth, a testament to natural fabric’s attributes. With Fall weathers begin to set in, Penfield introduces its Lakeville Mountain Jacket, a perfect transitional outerwear created with Penfield’s Hudson Wax fabric. In cobalt, black, light khaki, or this camouflage colorway, the versatility of its waxed cloth keeps its wearer dry and warm till the colder winter months. Along with adjustable drawstrings, store-away hood, and Velcro cuffs, a set of leather yokes provide additional barriers against the cold. Like the trade wind that brought cross cultural influences centuries ago, the preppy styling of New England is a distinctive fashion genre all of its own. A dab of Anglophile tradition, intermixed with American pragmatic approach, then tempered with the unique bond with the Atlantic Ocean, the looks of New England is as much Americana as Cowboy boots and Levi’s jeans. In presenting its origin and root of inspirations, Penfield compiled a photo series, “From Rockport to Cambridge”, as its Fall/Winter 2011 Collection Lookbook. With help from blogger F.E. Castleberry of Unabashedly Prep along with stylists Christine Mitchell and Branden “Skip” Brooks, the new lookbook highlights some of Penfield pieces, long favorites among its fans, in the setting where it all started. Penfield will be releasing two styles of their classic mountain parka for the Fall 2011 season.  First, the Kasson Tweed Mountain Parka, a combination of 2 traditional fabrics into one. On the jacket’s  top half, along with its sleeves, canvas from Hudson Wax helps in deflecting rain and snow. The bottom half, Penfield’s original tweed fabric, in herringbone pattern, provides the necessary warmth. Large storm flaps cover a two way zippers on the jacket’s front. Quick-release metal clasps around the collar to keep out the element. Apart from the standard four pockets on the front, a large game pocket is on the back with a quick side access point. Both of the jackets are currently available at Penfield retailers and their online shop.

The Black Bear line from Penfield focuses on retaining the classic silhouettes that made the brand famous. While at the same time modernizing the pieces by adhering to the latest high tech specifications, giving it a traditional aesthetic without compromising on functionality. Penfield Hudson Wax Cloth is used on the outer layer of the mountain jacket and it provides waterproofing, breathability and it is able wick moisture quickly. Four large pockets are placed on the front and snap button cover and zipper combination ensures windproofing. These are currently on pre-order from HANON and delivery will take place in September.
