In what is now an annual holiday tradition, DOUBLE GOOSE is back in New York City. Starting tomorrow at Reed Annex, New Yorkers will have the opportunity to purchase some of the most opulent down filled outerwear on the market today. The label will also introduce several new editions during the opening, including new red and blue dyed leather, along with a three-quarter V-Panneled style and Straight Panneled style. As an added bonus, the maker partnered with NSUM and Parisian jeweler Anjuna Bijoux for a pair of specially designed zipper pulls/pendants that will also be available for purchase on site. Premium bag specialist LEXDRAY hosted a special preview event this past Thursday evening for its pop-up shop at the Reed Space Annex in New York. The temporary storefront is open through the weekend, functioning as a showroom for the brand’s collaborative FLG Collection with the soon to be launched Boylston Trading Co. The online menswear boutique — with a brick and mortar location coming in 2012 — is overseen by creative director Frank the Butcher, former brand manager for Boston’s CONCEPTS. As for the collection, it’s made up of a backpack, document bag and duffle bag, all three done up in a blue hue and featuring red tiger camouflage lining. Production runs for each style are limited to just 100 pieces, with pre-orders taken now at the pop-up shop.

In an afternoon’s time, staff members from Reed Space and UMBRO transformed the Lower East Side boutique into space-time vortex with collected newspaper clippings, discarded boomboxes, along with ample amount black paint. All in homage to one defining moment in New York City’s modern history, the Blackout that took place on July 13th, 1977. While most of the soccer enthusiasts and NYC’s most fashionable in attendance last night were too young to recall, the mood set by charred walls, imagery of the 1977 riots, and vintage New York Cosmos photographs all served as mediums. The audience was enthralled further by the special “blackout” cocktails and a 70s music selection by our friend DJ Clark Kent, who happened to start his DJ career in 1977. For those who missed out on the time wrap experience, there is still an opportunity to recreate a sliver of 1977. Just visit the new UMBRO x New York Cosmos Blackout Pop-Up Shop at Reed Annex (next door to Reed Space), where the whole New York Cosmos Blackout Collection is available for sale from now till July 27th.

By the first day, it was quite apparent to co-owner Thomas Raynal that one, his label DOUBLE GOOSE was immensely popular in New York City. And two, he didn’t bring enough inventory. Indeed, few of DOUBLE GOOSE’s popular models immediately sold out that very first day. That was last year. So before he sets off for this year’s Pop-Up Store in New York City, Reynal readied himself with plenty of that famous premium leather down jacket and an extension in his stay. So the culmination of countless planning and set-up will come to fruition tomorrow afternoon as Reed Annex hosts the 2010 DOUBLE GOOSE Pop-Up Store in New York City. Set to open from tomorrow till December 24 th, with enough merchandises to satisfy Jay-Z, his entire entourage of 200+, and then some. The entire DOUBLE GOOSE product line will be available for sale, include the label iconic V Bomber Leather Down Jacket, plus a few New York City exclusive editions. The DOUBLE GOOSE NYC Pop-Up Store will officially open its door tomorrow with free refreshments starting at 5 pm. Live in-store music by DJ EMZ and Unkle Chip

Where do clothes go after one moves beyond a trend, outgrown its practicality, or after a disastrous wardrobe malfunction? Most certainly end up in thrift shops or a dumpster close by. But some fortunate pieces are rescue from this indignity by vintage purveyors like Brian Procell and Alex James , who scoured troves of unwanted and deadstock for premium items from Polo Ralph Lauren, Nike, Starter, MCM and more. Come in August, Procell and James will open their archives to the public for one of the kind sale at Reed Space’s Reed Annex store front. The 3-day only event will see some of the best vintage pieces, even one of the kind original designs. But mark your calendar and stop by early because when these items are gone, they are “really” gone.

A green, feathery special guest made his way to Reed Space on Friday afternoon to help kicked off the New York City Bike Month Special Sale – the GreenNYC Birdie. Always prompt in any occasion, the smartly dressed gentleman (of the avian kind), wore a specially designed bike helmet in the promotion of May as Bike Month in New York City. However, it wasn’t all work and no play, Birdie also took advantage of the 20% Off Sale to take care some gift shopping in Reed Space for his ladybird friend. Apparently, he had his eyes set on some Staple Design t-shirts on the shelves, an excellent choice indeed. So if any one calls you a “bird brain” next time, thank them for their compliment.
If you missed Friday’s festivities, you could still enjoy 20% OFF EVERYTHING SALE in Reed Space in addition to limited reflective stickers and t-shirts. All you have to do is to simply ride your bikes to the store. But you must hurry, the sale event ends tonight.

Aside from everything that happened this week– be it Iron Man II movie premiere in Los Angeles on Monday or Tiger Woods missing the cut at Quail Hollow Woods Championship, nothing has involved as many people and companies across industries, oceans, mountains and equator as the Shanghai Expo set to open this Saturday. As luxury labels, companies and more finish the push for the highly anticipated World Expo, often with special commemorative products and display booths fancier than their neighbors, and before we launch into a weekend fanfare of watching your RSS feed like a hawk for interesting news from the expo, let’s take a quick moment to relive all the fun stuff which happened around the world.
Sure, booths will open at Shanghai this year and possibly a record influx of tourist will rush the gates with gusto comparable to the Huang Pu River, a lot of things happened around the world that are still worth taking note of! Let’s just say, if you haven’t seen the behind-the-scenes of how to make your Nike kicks sing, and you are not caught up with how that gorgeous Louis Vuitton leather case journeyed its way into your wardrobe, it is quite essential that you keep on clicking to keep up with all that’s hot and notable this week!

In addition to special appearances, public murals, and tomorrow’s exhibition, artist Shepard Fairey and members of Team OBEY been slaving away for a special pop-up retail space at Reed Annex in Lower East Side, afternoon. And as anticipated, a line-up started to form even before the shop opened its door at 1 PM this afternoon. Soon OBEY fans, art aficionados, and curiosity seekers trickled into the modest sized shop at a gradual pace. Within 10 minutes of the opening, the Ali poster, part of the special NYC Print Series, sold out. Followed it was Basquiat, then Debbie Harry…40 minutes into the opening, all editions from the NYC Print Series sold out, an ideal case study on the demand for Shepard Fairey’s artwork.
For those who missed the opportunity today, the posters will be available 1 pm sharp tomorrow at Deitch Projects as a prelude to the show opening tomorrow evening. In the meantime, the OBEY Pop-Up Shop at Reed Annex will host a few special in-store event from now till May 16th.

Like gears in a well run machine, all the components are coming together as artist/activist Shepard Fairey embark on one of his most expansive project of late: a “take over” of New York City. From a public mural installation last week in SoHo, a book signing appearance at the Brooklyn Museum, to colab with graffiti legend COPE2 in the Bronx, and now the OBEY Pop-Up Store. To open at 1 PM today, the OBEY Pop-Up Store is situated at Reed Annex in Lower East Side, conveniently next door to Reed Space. Though it is a retail space and part of comprehensive visual experience from Fairey, the context of the store is also different from the rest of the New York projects. According to Steve Ternosky, Fairey’s friend and member of Team OBEY, the temporary retail space doubles as a retrospective presentation, from spent paint canisters to original artworks, a linear narrative of OBEY’s past and present. All of it leads to the future, the grand May Day exhibition at Deitch Projects gallery space in SoHo starting tomorrow. The store will also serve as a gathering place for Fairey’s East Coast friends and family. The OBEY Pop-Up Store will open this afternoon at 1 PM and extend till May 16th.
