This is an interesting week. First, to the joy for all who champion for equality, Proposition 8 has been overturned. Now all happy couples will enjoy the same rights and legal protection. Meanwhile, on a sadder note for Google, the search engine kingpin who has pretty much turned everything it touched into gold had to kill Google Wave– the previously promising revolutionary email which allows users to cooperate on documents in real time and more. That aside, this week was filled with releases and once again, roundball action since Nike will be hosting its World Basketball Festival soon in New York City. We have brought you the first look into what’s to come for World Basketball Festival, and on the sporty side of things, K-Swiss has enlisted the help of the fictional baseball has-been, Kenny Powers, as the spokesperson for its lates tubes technology. adidas Originals and Star Wars follows up their extremely successful debut collaboration with another season of hit items inspired by your favorite Star Wars characters, including Chewbacca, Han Solo, Stormtroopers, Jabba the Hutt and Boba Fett. Kanye West finally released his new trippy video created by filmmaker Marco Brambilla who is responsible for the acid-laden videos looping in the Standard Hotel’s elevators, and we have met up with DJ A-Trak to talk about his music and more. At Compass we uncovered some cool collections to come, and in Hong Kong, we checked out the launch of adidas Originals by Originals Kazuki Kuraishi Fall/Winter 2010 Collection. Keep reading after the jump to get a feel of things you should not have missed out this week.

Does life imitate art or does art imitate life? Is Eminem rapping about Rihanna’s debacle with Chris Brown? Or is it a mere coincidence? With Rihanna as the defeated female vocal on the track of Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie”, it seems like deeming this project as a coincidence is a terrible understatement. The official video to “Love The Way You Lie Ft. Rihanna” had just dropped, and the video features Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan (Drug addict rockstar Charlie Pace from Lost) in an abusive relationship that perhaps too many out there can resonate with.

Jay-Z along with Bono of U2, The Edge, Rihanna, and Swizz Beatz got together to record a charity song, “Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)” that looks to benefit those in Haiti. All proceeds of this song will go towards Partners in Health, a non-profit organization designed to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. “Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)” is now available for download via: the iTunes Music Store.

Ever since Rihanna got a fierce crop by chopping off her good-girl-next-door straight long hair, her style has evolved significantly and she was soon elevated to a style icon status. The hip-hop princess tapped into the punk rock look, rocking tight denim with hot boots, leather jackets and elongated tees, which quickly became the style anthem of girls everywhere all the way from 08 till now. Thus, count on Rihanna to get with the rocking Parisian creative collective S2A’s Buckle Ankle Boots. The beloved ankle boots silhouette takes on a tough military/biker vibe and bodes seamlessly with French designer, Jean-Charles de Castlebajac’s newsprint jeans as she exited Hyatt Hotel in Paris. For the ladies who are looking to cop her style, the ankle boots are now available through S2A online shop. via: S2A

As Rihanna had mentioned in her interview with GQ for the magazine’s January 2010 issue, her newly release album Rated R is essentially a musical reflection and vent for everything that had happened to her with regards to “the Chris Brown thing”. After a turbulent year of having to air dry her pain of abuse in the media spotlight, the only way a young girl thrown into the media frenzy with a quick shot to fame can survive is to get tough. Keeping the tough Rihanna in mind, “Hard” featuring Young Jeezy doesn’t come as a surprise on Rated R. In the video, while Rihanna belts out about coming into her own, being “brilliant and resilient” in a sexy army chick get up, wearing nothing but helmet, thigh high boots, open shirt and nothing but tape to cover the crucial chest area. Playing the sex card and acting tough as a nail, Rihanna doesn’t just have control over one man, but a battalion of them. Check out the fresh video from Rihanna and also take a look at her interview and photo shoot with GQ.

Some wiser men have boldly speculated, it takes approximately half the length of time of a relationship for one to truly get over it. Sadly for those in the spotlight, time is not such luxury. Especially for Rihanna who was entwined in “the Chris Brown thing” according to GQ, the girl had to step out and aired her pain through very public channels. For those who caught Diane Sawyer’s interview with Rihanna back in November, a little more than half a year after the tragic debacle, hip-hop’s most sympathized princess talked through her pain and came public with what happened that night when all fall through.
Now, with the release of her new album, many have discovered Rihanna’s sounds have changed. The princess isn’t just a good girl gone bad anymore. The good girl has matured and grown into one who knows better, or at least tried very hard to. Changing her image alongside her emotional self, Rihanna takes the same issues to GQ with a heartfelt interview and a very sexy photo shoot. Baring both body and soul, Rihanna dons little more than Balmain leather shorts and unbuttoned Charlotte Ronson catsuit, delivering a seductive, grown-up look with a freshly cropped do that has fast become another coveted Rihanna cut.
This feature comes as a timely release, as both GQ and Rihanna starts fresh for the new year. Check out the photos from the shoot and the interview which is now available for peruse online at GQ.
And really, the girl didn’t go bad, she just grew up.

Sure there were some lovey-dovey and sickly sweet moments during the happy Rihanna-Brown era, but the lady has started to look way fiercer and sexier since her well-justified split from Chris Brown. If the hip-hop princess’s stylish get-ups in the past year isn’t enough of proof, her album cover look on the just released single, Russian Roulette, should be enough to dispel any dissent (not that we expected there to be any). Donning next to nothing and wrapped in some very dangerous looking barbed-wires, the good girl didn’t just go bad, she went way badder. The single is a little preview for what’s to come of Rhianna’s Nov 23 album, Rated R, release. If this album cover isn’t exactly rated R yet, we can’t wait to see what her actual album shots look like. Check out the song and show the girl some support for all the wonderful work she’s been doing– running this town with tunes, anyone?

The most anticipated record in Hip-Hop has finally been leaked, Jay-Z has collaborated with Rihanna and Kanye West on his new official single off of his upcoming album, The Blueprint 3, entitled “Run This Town”.
