A mix of familiar team colorways and fictional mascots comes the new collaborative snap back caps by UNDRCRWN and Starter. The third rendition of such a collection, the Summer 2011 line is as colorful as ever with 3 distinctive styles. In melton wool, the Winners edition relates to collegiate sports with its Varsity Red colorways. An imaginary mascot that better described the attitude of his hometown, Oakland, California. UNDRCRWN’s creative director Dustin Canalin designed the Angry Bear icon, which sits perfectly now on the Angry Bear edition in the midst of kelly green and gold, also reference to Oakland. Finally, the quintessential representation of summer with a twist. The Gingham edition includes an embroidered interlocking UNDRCRWN initial and a “World Champs” basketball emblem on the side. All 3 designs are now available at UNDRCRWN online store.

If famed literally figure Harold Bloom called Shakespeare “the inventor of human”, then he must agree that Greek mythology played a role in the creation of culture. References of it permeated through every aspect of our modern society that its difficult to fantom their influences. One bearing quite obvious however is the world of sports. The Spartans, Athletics, Senators, Titans and the likes all had a reverence to the Gods and Goddess on Mount Olympus. Even icons of symbolic nature, the trident of Poseidon, winged foot of Hermes, Zeus’ lightening bolt, all took inspirations from the tales of god and beast, hubris and humility, triumphs and defeats.
In a playful mixture of classic hip-hop, fervor fandoms and classic Greek sagas, Dustin Canalin of UNDRCRWN created a styling applicable for all who love sports and the different facets of it. In addition to the graphic tee, tanks, and snap-back caps, Canalin also added a fun novelty this season, an oversized foam finger, for those die hard with an ardency to taunt the “other side”. For sale, the UNDRCRWN Collection for Spring/Summer 2011 (and foam finger) are all available now at the label’s official online store and select retailer worldwide.

Be boastful and have an ego trip! The March Madness is well underway. In an effort for you to join in the keg party at your local sports bar, UNDRCRWN is introducing its March Madness Collection for 2011. Harks back 20+ years of this collegiate rite of passage, UNDRCRWN created 6 graphic tees to highlight some of NCAA’s most historical teams – “FRESHman Five”, “North Cakalak”, “The Shark”, “Crazies”, “85 Illanova”, and “UC Devils”. All are now available at UNDRCRWN’s online store.

Leaping over a Kia Optima for a dunk is certainly a feat in itself. However, much of the Dunk Contest’s acclaim went back 4 years before Blake Griffin’s birth, in 1985. (Flashback music please!) On the roster that year were some of the greatest to dominate the collective memories of basketball from that era. “The Human Highlight Film”, Dominique Wilkins, who won the Slam Dunk title, Clyde “The Glide” Drexler, Darrell Steven “Dr. Dunkenstein” Griffith, Larry “Leaping Larry” Nance, and fast raising star named Michael Jordan. For a little throwback to the time of The Goonies and Madonna, UNDRCRWN made the ’85 Dunk Contest Capsule Collection as a visual reference to one of the greatest basketball generation. All tees are available now at UNDRCRWN online store.

A symbol of athletic prowess, it was only matter of time before UNDRCRWN created their very own varsity jacket. Known by its motto, The Brand for Champions, the label took on the challenge of expressing the collegiate origin of the jacket as well as its Americana pride with 2 styles – Toy Soldiers and Simon Says. In 100% melton wool, with Chenille details, leather welts for pockets and tonal buttons, the jackets are updated facsimiles of the originals. In the Simon Says variant, the jacket’s inner satin lining took inspiration from Simon, the popular electronic game of the 1970s. The “play theme” also extended to the Toy Soldiers edition, with a camouflage pattern lining in the forms of what else but plastic toy soldiers.
To round off the collection nicely, UNDRCRWN partnered with Starter once again and created a 2nd set of snapback caps. This time in matching wool construct of the varsity jackets with bold “World Champs” embroideries on front. The UNDRCRWN Luxe Varsity Collection will launch this coming Monday, December 27 th. However, www.shopundrcrwn.com, the label’s official online shop, will be taking pre-release orders starting today.

An athletic icon from a decade ago is enjoying a revival, slowly but surely. Once omnipresence along the sidelines of arenas, playing fields, and stadiums, Starter returns with a fresh round of snap back caps, this time by UNDRCRWN. Embroidered in reference to the “Club Script” emblems, a common practice by the NBA Draft organizer during the early 90s, the UNDRCRWN x Starter Snap Back Caps also comes in the familiar colors of Red, Black, Royal, and Kelly, all in some semblances to NBA team colors of the time. And for those who can’t stop reminisced the good old days, UNDRCRWN went a decade further with “Simon Says”, in what else, but the primary color wheel of Simon, that pesky addictive game by Milton Bradley in the 1970s. The UNDRCRWN x Starter Snap Back Caps, in Club Script and Simon Say forms, are all available at UNDRCRWN online store now and select retailers. Also, be on the lookout for its new varsity jacket, to drop in the coming days.

Beyond the headlines, the rumors, the soothsaying aquatic creatures, all athletes play to win, to conquer, and to dominate. Leave it to the design of Dustin Canalin and UNDRCRWN (UNDER-CROWN) to theorize what a world is to be like with athletes, particularly basketball players, in political positions, to “truly dominate the world” as they see fit? First speculation will be to propagate across the globe the place where they can showcase their dominance – the basketball court. But not just in cities and towns, instead, in decadence and places of high living – Miami Beach, Dubai, Monaco, and Saint Tropez. The league will no longer be the NBA, but as the newly established Global Trotter. For this imaginary basketball league, UNDRCRWN formulated tournament jerseys and graphics, all filled with destinations, points of reference, and vibrant colors to match. So take some time out and imagine what it would be like if LeBron became the President… The UNDRCRWN Globe Trotter Collection is available at its online store and select retailers around the world
