Previewed during the Milan Fashion Week for Men’s Ready to Wear, Evisu showcased its Spring/Summer 2009 collection for the Evisu Deluxe and Evisu Hertiage line. The design concept for 2009 borrowed heavily on historical context of East meets West. While most knew of Commodore Matthew Perry’s historical to Japan in 1852, the first of such scale by a foreign fleet in Japanese history at the time. A few could recall Kanrin Maru, the first Japanese sailing vessel to visit the United State in 1860. Inspired by the story, designers Evisu Deluxe took details from Japanese naval traditions, such as wide-leg cuffed pants and patch pockets, with updated silhouettes plus modern refinements. The fabrics all came from the Takisada Mills in Osaka, Japan, one with a 144-year history .

For the Evisu Heritage line, the key word is Tairyouki, or translated as big fish flag. Traditionally used by Japanese fishermen as a marker for bountiful catch, these brightly colored flags are still in use today as sign of good fortune. The same vibrant colorways can be found on the 2009 Heritage line as well.

Of course, one can’t forget Evisu’s extensive study on the art of denim manufacturing. It is no different in 2009 as the company introduce new selvage denims, including “No 13 LEFT”, accurate reproduction based on the earliest denim collection, from 1910 and onward, by Lee of USA

Titled “Party While You’re Still Living”, the crew along with friends, family, and photographer Brian Cleaver hit the pool at the suburb of New Jersey to escape the NYC heat. All wearing items for the new Black Palms Collection for Summer 08, including the much talked about “Nothing Lasts Forever” collaboration t-shirt with Diamond Supply Co. In the grand tradition of bespoke goods, premium denim label Evisu and Dutch bike crafter Grand 1888 created this one of the kind cruiser bicycle last Fall.  A “classically” created bike, each hand-crafted and include long forgotten details, such as a gold plackets on the mudguard. The frame, also hand-made, is crafted from tubular steel, then powder coated and rust proofed to be chip & rust resistance. The saddle is of original design, with each stamped with tanned cow hide cover and large black springs. The bicycle comes with LED rear light and headlight for safe night riding.  An Evisu bike duffel in selvedge denim is included as well.  For a good measure, each bike is individually numbered.

Originally retailed for US$ 4,449, the Evisu x Grand 1888 Bespoke Bike is currently on sale for US$ 2,225 at Evisu’s online store.  And if you ordered within the US, shipping comes at no extra charge.

When it appeared in 1998, Alphanumeric Environmental Protection Company, or simply called Alphanumeric (A#) created a groundswell in urban fashion.  The label was one of the first to interlaced different sub-cultures, such as skateboarding, surfing, car fanatics and etc… into one coherent design theme.

After a brief hiatus, the label just recently returned to the scene with its relaunch.  And come August, Alphanumeric will add its mark to the industry once again with the debut of its cut-and-sew collection.  A total of 18 pieces in this debut line.  Each item is streamlined in silhouette yet retained its relaxed fit.  Made from quality fabrics and patterns, all to blend in with the signature A# refinements.
