Once again Fabrik Contemporary Art is leading the way in providing contemporary art for Hong Kong. With their new gallery space finally complete, Fabrik will launch the first ever Murakami + artworks in Hong Kong. Takashi Murakami needs no introduction and he is well known in the art scene for making thought-provoking paintings and sculptures, running the influential artist-led art enterprise Kaikai Kiki artist management group, curating the visionary Superflat show, and collaborating on high-end, high profile projects with Louis Vuitton.

This exhibition will show prints and canvases from 2001 to 2008 noting his famous DOB, Murakami’s little mouse like leitmotif, a cartoonish and clueless creation. Along with works from fellow Kaikai Kiki artists Mr. and Chiho Aoshima.

An interesting free bi-monthly magazine have popped up from Tokyo called F L J, short for Filth, Libertine & Justice. It is headed by Toshiya Ohno, former Editor-in-Chief of Warp and Fine magazine from Japan. The emphasis are on steet cultures such as fashion, music, art, skate and lifestyle with a world wide perspective. The articles are delivered in bilingual (Japanese/English) content with each issue planned to have 100 or so pages in A4 size. The first issue has already sold out but if you can get your hands on them, grab a copy without hesitation. Best thing is, it is free!

Neighborhood’s 2008 Fall/Winter catalog has just been created and should be released to various Neighborhood outlets and retailers on August 9th. The collection itself was inspired by “Dirty Harry” and it will give retailers and consumers a preview of the items that Neighborhood is bringing to the table this second half of 2008. Japanese retailer, cheez, will be opening it’s doors in the retail friendly neighborhood of Harajuku in Tokyo tomorrow, August 1st. And to celebrate the opening of the door, cheez teamed up with fragment design to release three limited t-shirts that will be sold only at cheez. via honeyee

SOPHNET. one of the well known all around streetwear companies in Japan will be celebrating 10 years of existence via the release of a few special projects including a collaboration backpack with Eastpak that uses a number of premium materials including new riri zippers as well as another collaboration with Danner on a premium boot.
