As the current number # 1 player in golf world recuperate from injuries, Nike is set to release a special Blazer this weekend in honor of Tiger Woods and his achievements.  Covered with numerous symbolisms,  the entire upper is in white leather with “dimple” treatments, as the same dimples found on a golf ball.  Nike Swoosh in faux fur with a hint of tiger stripes represents Woods’ name and his tenacity on the greens. 2 very interesting icons can be found on the heel tab and tongue.  On the heel tab, a yellow likeness of US with a red star on Augusta, Georgia, where the one of the 4 major golf championships, The Masters, takes place.  It was the first major championship Woods won in 1997, just a year after he turned professional.  As tradition, winner of Masters Tournament receive a green sports jacket. A similarity could also be found on the Nike Blazer Mid’s tongue, with exception that it is now a green Windrunner instead.

Representing the ‘C’ in adidas Consortium AZX Project, Paris-base trend setting boutique Colette select the streamlined form of ZX 300 as its medium in the project.  Taking other words that start with the letter “C”, the design team at Colette gave their AZX Project entry a flair of French lifestyle with definitions such as Circus, Chance, Cinderella, Caviar, Complex and Confession. Currently available at Colette’s online store and its temporary retail point in Paris.

A few within the high fashion industry wondered what would Raf Simons bring to the iconic label Jil Sander when he was named its creative director a few years back. After all, Simons’ forte, the minimalist silhouettes and monochrome colors, were pioneered by Jil Sander herself. Those quandaries quickly dissipated after Simons showcased his debut collections. Even working with a minimalist design focus, Simons was able to augment his own styles. Aside from his own collaboration with Eastpak, a prime example of Simons’ infusion of themes and styles is this season’s sneaker collection for Jil Sander. Unlike what other designers have tried, Jil Sander’s sneakers are complete reflections of the current athletic footwears. Constructed out of 100% leather, each reflects Raf Simons/Jil Sander designs, forms are kept to a minimum and so are the colorways. The new collection of Jil Sander, by Raf Simons, is currently available at Jil Sander boutiques and exclusive retailers such as oki-ni.

Swedish illustrator/ designer Olle Hemmendorff was commissioned, together with 7 other creatives (Patrik Söderstam, Hanna Wieslander, Marguerite Seger, Jonas Wiehager and Fredrik Skogkvistby) by Nike to interpret a Nike Sportswear icon. Hemmendorff choose Nike Air Max 90 and created a burger sculpture of it.

The artworks will be exhibited at the 1912 space inside Sneakers ‘n’ Stuff, Stockholm for the next two months.

For those of you in the Long Island area, Sidana’s is a high class sneaker boutique located in Plainview, New York. The store was given high praise, having been called the Taj Mahal of sneakers because of its upscale appearance and rare kicks.  The owner, Amar Singh, has been in the sneaker business for 22 years, having been a stock boy in the mid-80s and has worked his way up since and now owns and operates 4 stores in Queens and Long Island. This place is definitely not your regular sneaker store, so make sure you check it out if you have the chance.

As the Olympic venues get well underway in the capital city of Beijing, Shanghai’s boutique ACU opened an unique Pop-Up Store on the 4th floor of adidas Brand Center, a special structure diticated to moreover the epic grand-opening of the 2008 Olympics in China. Tom, Director of ACU,  invited Whiz Limited creative head Hiroaki Shitano and director Kazuki, of Soul of Felicity, in creating a special Peking Duck (Kao Ya) tee in reflection of Beijing’s culture, history, and spirit.

The special edition t-shirt, along with the adidas A to Z Consortium Project, are currently available at the adidas Brand Center in Beijing’s Sanlitun Shopping Center and ACU flagship in Shanghai.

Reserve Jam - November 2008

Reebok and Hasbro has teamed up to release an exciting new MONOPOLY inspired footwear collection in August 2008. Coinciding with the highly anticipated release of Hasbro’s MONOPOLY Here & Now: The World Edition board game, the MONOPOLY footwear collection by Reebok will feature a variety of different styles for toddlers, kids, men and women.

Reebok’s design team took inspiration from the game pieces MONOPOLY, such as dice, tokens, Chance and Community Chest cards, houses and hotels, and MONOPOLY money, to create details for the laces, lace lock, prints, colors and the overall design element of the shoes.

The first models to launch in the collection pay tribute to the board itself and the global recognition that it possesses. The line that is scheduled to debut worldwide in late August will include the Reverse Jam designs and will be available for a retail price range of $40 for toddler sizes and $85 for men’s sizes. The women’s Courtee designs will be available in both a mid and low cut for retail price of $75-80.

Slated to launch in November 2008, the second wave will consist of a collection dedicated to the icons of the board. The Reverse Jam design of the Community Chest, hotels, houses and Chance will be available for a retail price range of $40 for toddler sizes and $85 for men’s sizes.
