Like Nike Air Max 95 and PUMA Disc, the Reebok Insta Pump Fury was a crucial element in the mid-1990's sneaker culture. It signified a departure from what a sneaker "should" look like. Instead, its futuristic design plus the lattice work of high-tech overlays created a distinctive footwear that was without peers, even till now. As a remembrance to those heady times of the 90s, Reebok partnered with Ueno's boutique, mita Sneakers, in creating the Flash Back 90s Series - a mini-collection of Insta Pump Fury which incorporates elements from that era.
The 2nd edition of this unique series, designers at mita selected the year 1997 and 2 prominent events occurred that year. First were elements taken from Reebok Insta Pump Fury - Hong Kong Returns Edition, a special 1997 model which marked Hong Kong's transfer of sovereignty, from a British colony to be part of China once again. On top of this base, a 2nd and more visible element was introduced. The beige paneling along with the croc-skin accents were actually inspired by the luxury house Louis Vuitton's 1997 appointment of the then little known New York designer, Marc Jacobs, as the label creative director. In addition, mita sneaker's logo is embroidered on the side. The Reebok x mita Sneakers - Insta Pump Fury - Flash Back 1997 Edition is set to launch this Sunday, October 12th.
