While the rest of the world will mark the start of 2010 in just a few more days, those of Chinese descent will hold off the bigger celebration of February 14th of next year for the start of the Year of the Tiger on the Chinese Lunar Calendar (coincidentally on Saint Valentine's Day also). According to Chinese zodiacs and folklore, those born on the Year of the Tiger are close resemblance of the fearsome predator, embodies strength, fearlessness, and self-assured. But they also giant felines, who could charm their way into anyone's heart.
To celebrate coming of this dynamic zodiac sign and as a continuation of its Chinese New Year heritage line, Nike and Nike Sportswear unveiled the new Year of the Tiger Cortez during the recent Greater China Media Summit in Hong Kong this week. Based on the semi-mythical white tiger, the revamped Cortez feature a tone-on-tone treatment on its white nylon upper, imprinted with white tiger stripes. Key portions, such as front toe box, eyestay, heel tab, and the ubiquitous Nike Swoosh are all enveloped in white pony hair. Further details include an embossed BaZi emblem centered with a simplified Chinese character for tiger on the leather tongue and the marking "2010.2.14" on the sockliner for the Chinese New Year date. The Nike Sportswear - Cortez "Year of the Tiger" Edition will be available to selective Nike Sportswear retailers in the coming months.
