Drake and Trey Songz' "Successful" is perhaps the perfect song for roping home some awards, if one believes in the beauty of self-fulfilling prophecy. But, with one of the most talented young directors in the music industry today, Jake Davis, success is not a far-fetched idea when paired with good thoughts, hard work, and teams who are willing to log hours loyally to make sure the end product is something that will live up to a trophy. Or in this case, trophies, as "Succssful" took home two awards, Hip-Hop Video Of The Year and Cinematography Of The Year at Toronto's MuchMusic Video Awards.
In Davis' latest blog entry, the thoughtful NYU graduate who kick started his career while he was still in school (one of his breakout projects includes directing a short film for Nike) lamented that there usually isn't enough time to give credit in all due places, so he wanted to thank the "small army" of people who made the video possible (to read the entire list, go here). For those who are unfamiliar, Jake Davis also has a long standing relationship with New York City's Supreme, and is the director behind many of their videos. While the video was released a while ago last year, if you haven't seen it yet, do check out the visuals that accompany Trey Songz' crooning of an exhaustive list of things everyone wants "money, money and the cars, cars and the clothes...", and also a clip of the awards ceremony!
