In the sneaker world, there has always been a gap between street style and performance. And the clear division of labor into separate departments within various sportswear giants' business models is evident that perhaps, street style and performance are better left separated. However, that doesn't mean sneakerheads and designers haven't tried to fuse both together. Sometimes, successfully, sometimes to no avail. This coming season, adidas Originals takes on the challenge of bringing together technology with urban contemporary styling with a new collection, MEGA.
The MEGA Collection, in layman's terms, gives street-prowl-ready styles a little sneaker steroid injection by incorporating two of the most iconic adidas technologies--the Torison and the Softcell. For sneaker tech buffs in the know, the Torison was first introduced in 1988 for the ZX running shoes. It amps up movement, forefoot support and thus allows for a range of lateral movements. Meanwhile, the Softcell adds more cushioning and support to the shoes. The MEGA Collection is about isolating key adidas technologies, and then enlarging them with new styles that are relevant.
Previewed here is the Torison XTH. The new Torison XTH combines the adidas basketball sensibility heritage with a sleek hi-top design and bold aesthetics as translated through classic sneaker colors like red and black and white and blue. For the new sneaker, the Torison Bar runs the full length of the outsole and the end of the bar sits directly under the hell and ball of foot for maximum stability. The oversized midsoles not only accomodated the Torison Bar, but it also the new model's streamlined shape intact.
The collection is set to launch on this coming August, so for those who are constantly seeking a better fusion of style and performance, adidas Originals now has new options available for exploration!
