Formula Drift Round 7 – Irwindale | Qualification Round With Team Need For Speed

It was an admiration from afar, through magazines on Japanese Imports, images from, and manga Initial-D. So when Electronic Arts (EA Games) and the newly formed Team Need For Speed offered the opportunity to be up close and personal at one of the biggest Drifting event of the year, we simply could not refuse.

One thing anyone immediately comes away with is the affinity between drivers, their support staffs and their counterparts. Though speed is a factor in who wins the competition. In the end, it is the finesse in each driver’s ability to slide into corners that really counts. There is also a sense of accessibility, where fans can intermingle with the drivers and the machines with impediments.

At the end of the qualification round and the first day, Team Need For Speed’s driver Matt Powers in Car #665 Nissan S17 ranked in at position 19 and “”Mad” Mike Whiddett in #111 Mazda RX-8 came in position 9. Round of 32 will start in 2 hours time with final taking place tonight at Irwindale Raceway in California. Good luck to all in the pursue of speed…
