With an unforgiving winter gust bearing down from the nearby Central Park, the line-up at NikeTown New York didn’t look so promising just a few hours ago. Though staff members warned that everyone there for the Air Jordan XI (11) Cool Grey must be prompt, even those with wristbands. At 11 pm, an hour before the midnight launch, only a handful people showed up. For a while there, it seemed the below-zero temperature won even against the most ardent sneakerheads, till 11:20 pm when a surge of people joined the queue. By 11:50 pm, just 10 minutes before the release, around 200 people huddled from NikeTown to the Tiffany’s next door, all to be the first few to have the Cool Grey in flesh. It was also a nice way to end 2010 as one of the most anticipated sneakers of the year. For those of us not wanting to risk frostbites, boutiques with Jordan Brand accounts and major retail chains, such as FOOTACTION, Foot Locker, and Dr. Jay’s, will offer the AJ11 Cool Grey promptly this morning across the U.S.
