From co-founder Alex Calderwood's perspective, his hotel chain, the ever popular Ace Hotel, and his favorite footwear label, CONVERSE, shared many traits, one of which comfort, value, and style trump hype. Since its founding as a converted Seattle's halfway house in 1999 to the most recent addition in New York City, the hotels have become a go-to haven for creative types, a familiar point of rendezvous in an unfamiliar city. A familiarity can also be found in the latest collaboration between Ace Hotel and CONVERSE, the Chuck Taylor All Star Bosey.
Part of the CONVERSE First String series, Ace Hotel located among CONVERSE's extensive archive a few special models to become the reference points for a new addition to its hotel personnel uniform. Some traced back to the 1940s and as military standard issue basic training footwear. The result, the Chuck Taylor All Star Bosey. Its olive colored upper in waxed cotton is a hint of its military inspiration. Padded footbed and sockliner, along with toughen toe cap give the hotel staff ample protection against daily wear and tear. Finally, the gum rubber outsole and Bosey boot grommets serve as signatures of this special collaboration. In addition to Ace Hotel staff members, some 300 pairs have been set-aside for the consuming public.
