Command by 2 giants, PENTAX navigates through the likes of Canon and Nikon by catering to niche camera users with novelties like the Nanoblock x PENTAX Optio NB1000. To address the needs of outdoor enthusiasts, the camera maker designed the Optio WG-1, along with the Optio WG-1 GPS. Truly redefine the word "ruggized", the casing on both Optio editions are crushproof, able to withstand 220-pound of press. Completely sealed, the cameras are impervious to dust, sand, and mud, with the ability to be waterproof under 33-foot of water. In fact, it was designed to withstand every conceivable adversity Mother Nature has and then some.

Featured a 14-megapisel sensor, a 28 140 mm lens with a 5X zoom, PENTAX also added a Enhanced Digital Microscope Mode. When on, 5 LEDs near the lens provide optimal lighting for botanist or entomologist to view collected specimens out in the field. As the designation indicated, the GPS function on the Optio WG-1 GPS enable geo-tagging of photos. Priced at $349.95 for the Optio WG-1, in colors purple or black, and $399.95 for the Optio WG-1 GPS, in colors yellow green and black, both editions will be available in April 2011.
