Documentaries educate and edify. In some cases, they act as a window to show the viewer a world inaccessible to almost all, but surely worthy of examination. Such are the circumstances surrounding a short documentary in which the subject is the recording of Watch the Throne, the upcoming magnum opus by Kanye West and Jay-Z. The ten-minute featurette reveals Kanye and Jay-Z holed up in a sprawling estate in Australia. Rather than a straightforward chronicling of recording sessions and rehearsals, we're granted the opportunity to see the hip-hop luminaries in intimate settings -- Kanye presenting Jay-Z with a gift during Jay-Z's birthday dinner, Jay-Z working over a phrase repeatedly, ultimately confessing, "Words are tough." It's a scattershot narrative, but ultimately we're given a glimpse into what makes these uniquely creative minds tick.
