This new lookbook, highlighting the Fall/Winter ’11 collection from Rocky Mountain Featherbed is Stockholm via Japan via Jackson, Wyoming; Rocky Mountain, the classic ski gear company hugely popular in the late 1960’s, went under in the 1980’s – until it was snapped up and resurrected by Japanese company 35 Summers, who brought all the attention to heritage details that make Japanese remakes such special pieces. Cali Roots shows this season’s collection with a nice photoshoot, against an industrial chic rock quarry background – a perfect setting for RFMB’s rugged pedigree. The pieces ooze heritage: there are vests done with wool bodies and leather shoulder yokes, a cotton duck work-style vest, and the showstopper, an all-leather vest, with shearling collar and pocket linings. All are styled with knit beanies, knit fingerless gloves, heather sweats, and washed denim – showing how Rocky Mountain is living up to all the glory and style of it’s golden era – and that it’s as perfect for a rugged outdoor look at it was half a century ago.
