While “The Dutch Eleven” hold the record for playing in the most World Cup finals without ultimately winning the match, the Dutch National Team still tops the FIFA world rankings and remains one of the strongest teams not only in Europe, but the world. With their first 2012 UEFA Euro Championship tournament match set for June 9th, 2012, Nike switched out the older and more subtle white away kit for a new sophisticated and daunting design, which outfits the players in sharp black from head to toe. With touches of the iconic Dutch orange that inspired their Clockwork Orange nickname on the panel on the right shoulder, logos, and numbers, the new jersey invokes both an authoritative and lethal approach to the game. The pieces of the kit are made with an eye toward superior athletic design and minimal impact to the environment using 100% recycled polyester in the shorts and 96% in the top, which reduces their overall weight by 23%. The players will also benefit from the embedded Nike Dri-FIT technology, which help to regulate their temperatures on the pitch by removing sweat from the body to keep them drier and cooler than ever before. The base layer of the kit features Nike’s Pro Combat Hyperstrong and Hypercool apparal, which provides additional padding in the waist and thighs and mesh fabric to maximize breathability. While their kit may be different, once you see the Dutch players work the ball with their unimaginable precision, you’ll recognize that the game will remain unmistakably Dutch.
