The official trailer of Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of F. Scott Fitzergerald's 1925 Long Island-set novel (and probably the only book you actually enjoyed being forced to read in school), The Great Gatsby, was released by Warner Bros. yesterday. The cast is as amazing as the glitz and glamour of the set, (which is in line with Luhrmann's past work on Moulin Rouge) and includes Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchana, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, and the Hollywood debut of legendary Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan as Meyer Wolfsheim. The story follows Midwesterner Carraway as he is lured into the lavish world of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby, where, soon enough, Carraway sees through the cracks of Gatsby's nouveau riche life, where obsession, madness, and tragedy await. Hopefully the film, which is set to hit theaters on Christmas 2012, does the book justice. Judging by the first trailer, things seem to be right on the money. Check it out after the jump.
