Apparently, not all ice is created equal. There are some that are manufactured for the mass market to be produced and consumed quickly, then there are ice which are made slowly with less oxygen, giving it a crystal clear aesthetic that will last much longer in a drink. Furthermore, corners on ice cubes induce melting, therefore an ice ball is the preferred choice for cooling alcoholic beverages.
