Geoffrey Farmer - "Leaves of Grass" Exhibition | Made from Paper Cut-Outs of LIFE Magazine 1935 - 1985 Issues

Spanning more than 60 feet and built using thousands of clippings from the iconic American magazine, LIFE, Canadian artist Geoffrey Farmer's "Leaves of Grass" Exhibition is a creation unlike no other. Drawn from five decades of the image-centric journal - from 1935 to 1985 - Farmer's work is completely fabricated from cut-outs from the magazine that served as a view into American life and its perspective on the world for generations of people. The work serves as both a photographic archive focusing on the middle part of the twentieth century and as a new kind of three-dimensional collage featuring advertisements, articles, and pictures of politicians, stars, and cultural icons from the time. Each image is individually attached to a thin wooden post in order to give depth to the collection, which is properly named after renowned poet Walt Whitman's collection of poetry. Farmer's work will be on display along with the work of 200 other artists within the 13th dOCUMENTA Art Festival hosted throughout Kassel, Germany for the next 100 days. via: transform
