Yayoi Kusama - whose work spans more than 60 years across a variety of media - is the subject of a 14-room Retrospective Exhibition that is coming to New York's Whitney Museum of American Art, beginning July 12, 2012. Known to be a bit of a reclusive, but still vibrant in her artwork, style, and work ethic, Kusama has created an extensive body of work, beginning with her early paintings through today's work with sculptures, performance art, and immersive installations. On view at the Whitney through September 30, the traveling exhibition, which is organized in collaboration with Tate Modern, last made a stop in London before packing up for its trip across the Atlantic. This will be Kusama's first major exhibition in New York in over fifteen years and, if that wasn't enough, the launch of her line co-designed with Louis Vuitton will also be on display. While she is known to many of her younger fans as the Queen of Polka Dots, previews of some of her other famous works that are making the trip to New York - sans dots - are after the jump. via: HuffingtonPost
