By catering to action sports enthusiasts, the GoPro "wearable" video system carved out a highly profitable niche market in less than 10 years. But now, there are some serious contenders coming to claim the top prize, including MIVEU. Pronounced as "My View", the company is not necessary a consumer electronic manufacturer but more of a gadget accessory maker. Its first product, the MIVEU-X, is essentially a wearable case for iPhone 4 and 4S. You first snap on the MIVEU ruggedized case onto your phone, then fasten it onto a cross chest adjustable harness. To record a video, simply push on an integrated shutter button and let the "film" roll. Thanks to a built-in wide angle lens, the MIVEU-X system allows a much wider perspective. Another immediate advantage is the convenience of the device. Now you can listen to your digitally stored music while on the sky lift going up, record your gnarly tricks down the slope, and edit, upload, and share your video online, all before getting that cup of hot chocolate from the ski lounge. Finally, costing at around $99, its an excellent alternative to GoPro.
