The recipient of the prestigious TED Prize in 2011, the French artist JR has opened a new exhibition, "Pattern," at Galerie Perrotin in Hong Kong. The show will display for the first time photographs and wood panels from JR's INSIDE OUT series, a large-scale global art project that "transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work." For Hong Kong, the artist pasted 16 massive black and white photos of human faces atop the Connaught Road footbridge, located in the center of town. The portraits are intended to provoke the public to "discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world." The exhibition also includes JR's first experimentation with cast aluminum "crinkled" sculptures, meant to evoke crumpled pieces of paper and featuring dot patterned eyes that call back to INSIDE OUT imagery. The show is scheduled to run through November 10th.
