"I used to be a designer of products, but now I'm a designer of life." So begins the latest installment of Herman Miller's "Why Design" video series, this one focusing on New York-based designer Ayse Birsel. Similar to previous episodes featuring Yves Behar and Don Chadwick, the short film finds Birsel expounding on her design inspirations, ranging from the clash of cultures in her adopted hometown of New York (Birsel herself hails from Turkey, coming to New York in the late '80s to work on her Master's degree at Pratt), to the importance of deconstruction as a part of her creative process. Birsel observes that "Design is imagination, and if you can imagine something you can make it happen." Hear more of her insights in the video below.
