The latest installment of Herman Miller's "Why Design" series touches down in London, home base for industrial designer Sam Hecht and architect Kim Colin, founders of the design studio Industrial Facility. The husband and wife team bring opposing elements to their work, with L.A.-born Kim carrying a "macro" view of the world formed in part by her training as an architect, while native Londoner Sam maintains an exacting attention to detail. Sam notes that it's a necessary dynamic, observing "We need contrast and tension to be able to create." The balanced approach to their work has resulted in products -- like the Enchord Desk and Mattiazzi Branca Chair -- that place a premium on simplicity and elegance. Check out the video below.
