  • Updated:

Done up in classic retro styling, the Pentax MX-1 represents the brand's first foray into the advanced compact camera market. To go along with its good looks, the point-and-shoot camera has an impressively solid construction, using solid brass at the top and bottom panels of the body. The MX-1 features a 12-megapixel backlit CMOS sensor with a fast f/1.8-2.5 lens, capable of up to 4x optical zoom. The rear LCD, measuring 3 inches in size, has a sharp 921k-dot resolution and can tilt up or down. Additional details include a dual sensor-shift shake reduction system, combined with a digital shake-reduction mode for sharp, blur-free shots at lower shutter speeds. Available in black and silver finishes, the Pentax MX-1 launches next month with a $499.95 price tag.
