Now that the pageantry over at CES are winding down, all eyes are now on North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), which is set to open for press/media this weekend. With the US’ economy showing a steady uptick and its auto industry on the mend, the exhibition, commonly known as Detroit Auto Show, will be more crucial for auto makers this time around.
In the face of stiffer competition from BMW, Audi, and Lexus, Mercedes-Benz announced its new Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG sedan for model year 2014. To set itself apart from the rest of the new E-Class, designers at performance division Mercedes AMG redesigned the fascia further include all LED headlights and the new “twin blade” design on the front grille. Another added feature is the wider front skirt, making the car’s stance even more aggressive than before. But it isn’t all cosmetic on the new model. To fully satisfy their clientele, Mercedes will be offering three different editions of the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. All to include the AMG-designed 5.5-liter V8 BITURBO Engine, each tuned to a set output. For the base model, the output will be at 557 horsepower with a maximum torque at 720 Nm. Performance from 0 to 62 mph is at an astonishing 4.2 seconds. With its all-wheel drivetrain, the mid-tired Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG 4MATIC is able to tweak out a better time of 3.7 seconds. But the top prize goes to the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG 4MATIC S-Model, which with its 585 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque, will cross the 62 mph mark at 3.6 seconds. In addition to the updated powerplant, a brand new AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission allows you literally customize the car’s performance on the fly, making it all the more closer to an actual race car.
From carbon fiber inlay, Bang & Olufsen BeoSound stereo system, to Alcantara leather interior and 10-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels, there are plenty of amenities and add-ons to select from. So much in fact that it might just outclass all of its peers. Look for the base model of Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG to arrive at dealership in April with the 4MATIC and the 4MATIC S-Model to come in June.
