Even with Michael Jordan's departure from the game, Jordan Brand continued on in pushing the boundaries of sneaker design. After seeing an interesting though common feature on a marching band ensemble, Jordan Brand's senior designer Wilson Smith added a removable shroud over the 2001 Air Jordan XVI. The new addition lived up to a stealth-like reputation, which stemmed from Jordan's Black Cat moniker. The shroud also provided a way to control thermal regulation for both indoor and outdoor play.
