New York's Fashion Week played host to Y-3's Fall/Winter 2013 Collection, which Yohji Yamamoto used as an opportunity to play with proportion, earthy tones, and an infusion of the new with the old. Large, warm overcoats have always been a staple in the cold weather, but many of the pieces, including the pants, shorts, trousers, sweaters, and shirts in the collection all seemed to have more length, volume, and flow to them. Mixed in with this theme of size and shape is an interesting emphasis in classic tailoring, which joins together the fashion-forward use of new materials, vibrant colors, and unique patterns with more traditional silhouettes common to formal apparel for both the women and the men. Overall, Yamamoto's collection was consistent in that there was experimentation throughout, an influence that won't go unnoticed as Y-3 fans begin to think about their cold-weather apparel in the months ahead.
