Designed To Move: Nike + Michelle Obama

In an effort to raise awareness on the danger of childhood obesity, Nike will be teaming up with First Lady Michelle Obama's LET'S MOVE! Initiative in bringing back exercise-related coursework to schools.

Because of a number of circumstances, including budget restraints and changing lifestyle, only 1 out of 3 children in the U.S. are active on a daily basis. More alarming is the fact that only 4% of elementary schools, 8% of middle schools and 2% of high schools, have physical education courses in place. In addition only 6 states require these courses in every grade. However, there are ample statistics which show the benefits of a daily 60 minutes routine in a child. Regular physical activities not only improve health, but classroom behaviors, attendance levels, and test scores.

In bring attention to the matter, Mark Parker, Nike President & CEO, will be joining First Lady Michelle Obama later on today for an important announcement. Nike also signed up to be a major supporter of LET'S MOVE Active Schools, the First Lady's initiative to incorporate physical education back into schools across the U.S. See the introductory video below...
