After a quick first glance last month, CONVERSE reveals more details today on its upcoming footwear collection with British fashion designer Nigel Cabourn. Part of the CONVERSE First String premium line, the collection comprised of the Chuck Taylor All Star Bosey seen earlier and the Chuck Taylor All Star Specialty Plimsole, an all-new silhouette. Both will be centering on heritage garments and military-inspired designs, which Cabourn is known for as well. Ever the perceptive student of history, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne-based designer looked back at CONVERSE's rich American heritage, then immersed those elements with British's own during World War II. The results are two rather unique forms featuring Ventile fabric from Talbot Weaving Limited, the same one used on flight suits for pilots of Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire during Battle of Britain.
Known to extend pilots' survival rate by tenfold in the icy water of English Channel after they bailed out, the Ventile fabric is still an integral part of today's Royal Air Force. But because it adds such a strong element of history and design to this collection, Cabourn selected the All Star Bosey for its military-like chunky sole and 1940s appeal. The designer added, "I had been thinking about creating a British Army P.E. sneaker, hence the development of the plimsole silhouette."
Nigel Cabourn x CONVERSE First String Chuck Taylor All Star Bosey is set to launch next Thursday, April 12th, while the Nigel Cabourn x CONVERSE First String Chuck Taylor All Star Specialty Plimsole will be available later this summer on June 14th, through select CONVERSE retailers worldwide.
