Singer Sky Ferreira recently sat down with Daft Punk in Los Angeles for CR Fashion Book, the new fashion magazine founded by erstwhile French Vogue editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld. In the Q & A, the robots discuss the challenges they faced in making the album -- Random Access Memories, due for a May 17th release -- even as they disclose that many of of the hurdles were self-imposed.

Making this album was difficult and challenging in an exciting way, but that is the nature of these empirical musical experimentations. We tried to do some things we had never done in a studio. We wanted to learn techniques we did not know. We did not want to take the easy route. But somehow, the difficult parts of the entire creative process are what made the journey really worth it.

They also discuss the highlights of their recording process -- like working with childhood hero Nile Rodgers -- and expand on recent press interviews in which the duo laments the current state of electronic dance music, a genre they helped bring to the mainstream. The corresponding photo shoot finds Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter sporting custom Saint Lauren tuxes from Hedi Slimane. Check out the full feature here.
