De La Soul Drops "Get Away" feat. The Spirit of Wu-Tang

In 1989 De La Soul dropped the iconic album 3 Feet High and Rising , and 24 years later the Long Island based trio is still pushing the Native Tongues philosophy of positive, well thought out, intelligent lyrics over jazzy bass-laden instrumentals. In the first single, “Get Away,” from the forthcoming You’re Welcome, De La takes you back in time, to the golden age of rap with creative wordplay and a melodic sample from the intro track to Disc 2 of Wu-Tang Forever. The choice to overlay some of the RZA’s more vocal criticism’s regarding the state of hip hop coupled with the assertive verses laid out by Maseo, Posdnuos and Trugoy the Dove, reminds you that even when playful, the trio never minces words.

Opening to a turn-dial TV, the video instantly instills a retro vibe that is reinforced by the animated Rubik’s Cube that takes the viewer on a three minute journey through the group’s catalog as it bounces to voice inflections and the beat's heavy bass line.

There is no official release date for De La Soul’s You’re Welcome, but fans can expect it to drop this fall.
