On Sunday, June 16th, 2013, the parking lot of SELFRIDGES in London was transformed into a pseudo skate park and club to celebrate a milestone in HOOD BY AIR’s existence. The New York-based, cult apparel line has been chosen to be one of twenty brands featured in SELFRIDGES’ upcoming men’s contemporary concept floor. Set to open in October, the new section is expected to carry functional and stylish pieces that were not previously available at SELFRIDGES. In addition to the party, Creative Director, Shayne Oliver, also collaborated with well-known British knitwear brand, Corgi, to create rebellious, out-of-this-world garments that fittingly commemorate the merger of US and UK style at this week's London Collections: Men showcase.

As mentioned before, the fashion show that transpired was not your average catwalk parade, but instead, a high-energy skate performance lead by model and skater Jimmy Q. Wearing androgynous, black-and-white outfits from HOOD BY AIR’s Spring/Summer 2014 Collection, models performed in skirts, stockings, long-sleeved shirts with elbow cut-outs, pants constructed of large strips of ribbon, pants constructed of zippers, and hats that concealed the entire face, head, and neck. According to Oliver, “Behind the collection, it’s kind of like beachbum wear for night time. It’s like if a surfer wants to be a club kid - it’s meant for cool nights on the beach. It’s just about what you would wear when the sun goes down.” HOOD BY AIR’s avant-garde collection was well received for its flare and dash of high fashion in the urban wardrobe and we’re super excited to see what Oliver has in store for the next season.
