Christopher Shannon’s Spring/Summer 2014 Menswear Collection is loud and over the top, featuring ballooning shorts, flamboyant, two-piece sets, and ensembles consisting of endless floral prints. The hyper-pigmented collection appropriately channels the feel of a festive carnival with its cotton-candy pinks, ice-pop oranges, and mint greens. The clothes are fun and a tad androgynous as a result of the oversized tailoring. However, such ambivalence is offset by the transparency of the outstanding pieces, which explicitly show the masculinity of its models. Robust collars and zippers are recurrent details found throughout the collection and add a subtle level of continuity. As menswear slowly takes on more feminine characteristics, Christopher Shannon’s signature style manifests itself as one of the most fashion forward lines in the world of up-and-coming talent during this month’s London Collections: Men event.
