As Casio G-Shock's 30th Anniversary celebration continues throughout 2013, likeminded labels and collaborators are joining in the festivities as well. After footwear label Supra unveiled its "It’s About Time" Edition last month, headwear maker New Era announced its own collaborative G-Shock edition, the New Era x Casio G-Shock DW-5600VT Watch. Substantially muted in appearance, the all-black timepiece is devoid of any accents or markings. Instead, there are just two emblems: a white New Era flag logo on the dial face's top and a hologram version when the EL backlighting is turned on.
What it lacks in adornment, the watch certainly makes up for in functionality. A model that first went into development in 1981, the DW-5600 was also one of the first designs to have completed the "Triple 10" standard, a grueling protocol where Casio engineers dropped the watch from 10 meters, submerged it under 10 bars of atmospheric pressure in water, and submitted it to a usage test equivalent to 10 years without a single battery replacement.
Limited in availability, the New Era x Casio G-Shock DW-5600VT Watch - 30th Anniversary Edition will be available soon through authorized retailers in the coming months.
