A hand-me-down from his older brother in the late 1970s, Tony Hawk's very first skateboard was a fiberglass Bahne model, equipped with Chicago roller skate trucks and Stoker loose-ball-bearing urethane wheels. The historic relic is now headed for the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, but first, one final ride on the deck that started it all. "Bearings that are nearly 40 years old are pretty slow," Hawk observed afterward, "but at least it stayed in one piece." It’s an appropriate sendoff for a genuine skateboarding artifact, one that's captured in the brief video below. Check it out now.
