Thanks to his deft Photoshop skill, Theophilus Chin, the self-professed "automotive manipulator," created a near realistic rendering of the much anticipated Mazda Mazdaspeed3. While Mazda executives have not mentioned the possibility of a new Mazdaspeed3 at Wednesday's Mazda3 unveiling, automotive journalists, blogs, and online forums are all clamoring for it. The obvious reason is its attractive KODO design theme and originally derived from the Takeri concept car, now retouched by Chin with the addition of an virtual front hood scoop. Another reason is the simple fact of selection. In a product sector long dominated by small-sized crossovers, Volkswagen GTI, and Subaru Impreza WRX STi, there is a need for a new platform. Best of all, even if quipped with the current turbo-charged, 263 horsepower inline-4 engine, the new car will still outpace the current Mazdaspeed3 thanks to a reduction of 200 lb..

Unfortunately, since it takes just over an year to get a Mazdaspeed performance variant out into the market, we might need to wait till 2015, or even 2016, to see it on the road. That is if Mazda execs green-light the project at all…
