Deus Ex Machina - which translates to "god from the machine" - is undoubtedly one of the world's best when it comes to customizing motorcycles, with locations in American, Australia, Asia, and Europe serving as inspirations and centers for creativity for those looking for two-wheeled self-expression. So, when Yamaha commissioned a new challenge to motorcycle designers around the world to help them transform their modern rides into "Yard Built Specials," Deus must have been salivating at the opportunity. One started, it was only a matter of time before the Yard Built XJR1300 Project X was finished, drawing inspiration from legendary endurance bikes of the '70's and '80's with an eye toward revealing the muscular underside of those powerful machines. After freeing up some weight, the 1251cc air-cooled engine began to show through, as did the "Transparent Dark" paint treatment, and custom tanks and body. Ultimately Yamaha will be working to transform these designs into aftermarket kits for their owners to buy to build their own dream machines, but until then we can just stand in awe of Project X.
