After some last minute adjustments, the Nike X158 Shanghai retail concept finally opened its doors over the weekend. Also known as “X158 Nike,” the mixed-use venue promotes both creativity from Nike’s design aspect, along with innovation taken from its technology side. And what better example than the presentation of “NATURE AMPLIFIED: THE ART+SCIENCE OF FIT + FREEDOM,” a special exhibit on Nike Free Flyknit-inspired artworks. But aside from the numerous works of art, prototype, and visitors was the impromptu gathering of industry insiders, all in town for the YO’HOOD trade show. CLOT partners Edison Chen and Kevin Poon, along with UNDEFEATED owners Eddie Cruz and James Bond were all in discussion about their respective markets. David Sinatra, scion to the Stussy empire, greeted veteran influencers Paul Mittleman and Russ Karablin of SSUR, while DRx Romanelli‘s Darren Romanelli checked out the tech behind the Nike Free Flyknit. After running countless marketing initiatives non-stop the last few months, Matthew Williams and Heron Preston of #BEEN #TRILL finally had some downtime, while Fraser Cooke (Nike), Kazuki Kuraishi (Heather Grey Wall) and Michael Dupouy (La MJC) swung by to check out the festivities themselves.
