It's all very hush-hush, but rumor has it that Stüssy has collaborated with Yo! MTV Raps for a 25th Anniversary capsule collection that will feature the faces of 80s TV hosts Doctor Dré, dancing man Ed Lover, and Fab 5 Freddy. For those of you that can't recall what the 90s scene was like, Yo! MTV Raps basically provided the average American household with a healthy, 2-hour dose of hip hop culture throughout the week. There were rap videos, interviews, live studio performances, and (as alluded to above) a fresh, Ed Lover dance performed to DJ Mark the 45 King's "The 900 Number" song. Shit was legit.
Hence, it's only appropriate that Stüssy, the California lifestyle streetwear brand loved by hipsters since the 80s, be the team to make this collection happen. It's about time, too. The hip hop culture wouldn't have spread as fervently without Yo! MTV Raps; an homage to the movement has been long overdue.
