Just like how Tom Clancy's first novel, The Hunt For Red October, stunned those in the world of espionage and military with its accuracy and realism, his sudden passing last week shocked the literary community and most of all, his fans. But ever the businessman with a foresight (Clancy was an insurance agent before his literary career), the best-selling author ensured his legacy will live on in Jack Ryan, the protagonist of his novels. And like James Bond and Jason Bourne, Ryan will be "plug-in" to another contemporary setting as Paramount Pictures jump start the Jack Ryan franchise with Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.
Delayed several times after changes of director and script, the final product has actor Chris Pine, best known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk in the new Star Trek films, as Jack Ryan, along with Keira Knightley as Cathy Ryan. Also in this reboot will be Kevin Costner as a CIA operative and Ryan's mentor, and Kenneth Branagh, who will be pulling double duties as the film's director and Ryan's nemesis, a Russian oligarch by the name of Viktor Cherevin.
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit will be in theaters around the globe this Christmas Day, December 25th. Check out the first official trailer after the click for a glimpse of what's to come.
