Multiple CDFA Menswear Designer nominee Michael Bastian has opened a pop up shop— and in a haystack nonetheless. Although not a needle, the quaint setting (located just beyond the West Side Highway at the farthermost edge of Chelsea) is definitely a rare find. Bastian has gone to painstaking ends to make sure that his first retail outpost qualifies as a one-of-a-kind experience by creating a shop that is half constructed out of beeswax (his collaborators, architecture firms Bittertang and BOFFO, must have had quite a heyday figuring out the logistics of this one).
As guests enter the venue, a main room made of beeswax receives them, decked out in a Gothic-tinged design. Suspended in the wall is a creepy painting of midget twins which corresponds with the twisted twin beds on the floor. A curtain of black feathers separates the back room, which houses the coveted pieces from Bastian‘s Fall/Winter 2013 collection, including a select handful from the runway. The store will only be open until November 21st, 2013, so fans of Bastian who would like to see the awesomeness for themselves best get buzzing.
