Jeff Koons On His Balloon Dog Sculpture

Jeff Koons has always been a polarizing figure in the art world, but there's no denying the commercial success of the New York-based artist. He will enjoy a career retrospective at the prestigious Whitney gallery in May, and last November one of his balloon dog sculptures fetched $58,405,000 at a Christie's New York auction, achieving a world record for a single piece by a living artist. The Brooklyn production company SandenWolff recently visited Koons in his New York studio to discuss the origins of his balloon dog -- a sort of archetype that the artist says connects viewers with the "monumental and the everyday" -- as well as his long-running fascination with inflatables.
